The story of Alexia and Lukas is a beautiful one. Both avid basketball-players playing for the same club, they actually first saw each other at university where Alexia didn't pay much attention to the "nerdy tutor". At first. Because when she went out with a friend to a basketball-game she suddenly realized that the guy she had so far only seen at university was also a basketball-player. And he wasn't as nerdy as Alexia first thought. So the next day, she decided to go up to the suddenly more appealing student advisor and tell him she had seen him play last night. It was the beginning of a wonderful love story - Lukas got to know Greek customs (Alexia's parents are from Greece), they moved in together and finally got married on the day of their 7-year-anniversary.
The wedding was exciting for me as well: Because Lukas is protestant and Alexia Greek Orthodox they decided to have a mix of both ceremonies. For me it was the first time witenssing and photographing a Greek-Orthodox wedding and I must say: I loved it. the ceremony is beautiful, poetic and much more lively than catholic or protestant weddings. The only downside to the experiment was that neither of the priests knew when to have the couple kiss so they did not have their first kiss as a married couple in the church. Well, one more story to tell from that wedding day :D
The whole wedding was filled with emotions and beautiful little details. In her garter, Alexia sewed in a friendship bracelet her maid of honor had made for her when they were little girls. The bride made hangers for the dresses and the couple decorated the location of their party with adorable paper pom poms. There were tissues during the cermony and a lovely candy bar in the evening. And during our shoot we stumbled upon a classic car meeting where we took a few shots with old cars before going to the riverbank for a quick couples-shoot. Everthing just went by so quickly - which is always the best sign you're enjoying yourself.
Thanks, you two, for having me at your wedding. It was a blast!
