Melanie & Timo

Sometimes, things turn out differently than you planned. I think this is a good way to describe my relationship with Melanie and Timo. They were planning a wedding party on Saturday with their friends and family, but no photographer. The day before, they got married with just their closest people at the registry’s office in Brugg. Also without a photographer.

But thankfully, Melanie’s best friend Aline is a wedding planner and knew me from a previous engagement so she highly encouraged the two to book me so that they’d have everlasting memories of at least one of their wedding days. They opted for the civil one and it was all a little spontaneous. Nevertheless, i feel like it was a great decision because not only are both of them gorgeous, they radiate with love and I just loved making their day that bit more special by gifting them with some beautiful photos.

After saying yes, we continued to the restaurant that somehow seemed to have forgotten the order so we ended up just ordering Pizza for everyone. I mean, why not? It might have been a little difficult to eat it with a white wedding dress, but Melanie did fabulously. But that wasn’t the last thing to go wrong on their wedding day: Unbeknownst to the couple, Aline had organized a classic car that would take the newlyweds on a ride for about an hour and then drop them off home. We were supposed to stop after a few minutes and take some more couples photos. And then the car broke down. On the side of a very busy street. And nothing could get it working again, at least that’s how it seemed in the beginning.

So, we had to improvise. Thankfully, melanie and Timo are both super easy-going and were totally relaxed. I suggested to just take the photos where we were, in front of an old farmhouse on the side of the road. So that’s what we did. And I think the pictures turned out fantastic despite us only having limited space and them having so many cars driving by and honking. In the end, that’s probably the story they’ll tell! And because it was so much fun, I will post a behind the scenes video right here so you can imagine what I was working with (thanks Aline for the video).

Oh: And we eventually got the car running so they still got to take the ride after all.

In the end I can say two things: One - Do not fret if something goes wrong on your wedding day. There’s always a solution. And Two - Yes, of course I’m biased, but I feel it’s an investment into your relationship to have some couple’s photos taken every now and then. In Switzerland, it’s not common to book photo shoots, so many couples only ever have professional photos taken on their wedding day. And that’s a start! But why not just book a photographer for a short shoot of the two of you on any random day? Either way, I would’ve felt bad if these two beauties didn’t have any professional photos to remember their beautiful day by.
